In anticipation of her latest release coming in May, we delved into Paige Toon’s, The One We Fell In Love With.

A tale of Triplets. Phoebe – will she settle down and get married or will she return to the French Alps and pursue her passion? Eliza – in love with someone who isn’t hers and dreams of becoming a successful musician. And Rose – out of a job and out of a boyfriend, and has just moved back in with her mother. Three girls with three different lives but one thing in common…Angus. The one they fell in love with…

I’d already heard quite a bit about the book after it was chosen by the Zoella Bookclub and after a few recommendations from friends I decided to give it a go.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a chick-lit/rom-com book. I’m more self help, psychology and thriller these days but with a weekend free to myself I grabbed a blanket and a big mug of tea and sat on the sun lounger totally immersed in the book. It was as good as I hoped.

WHAT WE LOVED:

Don’t you just love it when a book immediately grabs you and transports you within the pages as if you are living through the words? That’s when I know I’m onto a winner.

The One We Fell In Love With gripped me from the Prologue. Who was this Angus guy? Who was he kissing? How did he kiss the wrong girl?

The book tells the story of each triplet in her own words. Each very different characters. There’s Phoebe who’s full of life and ambition, always the popular one and preparing to marry her love. Rose, comes across as the giver – a nurse and always lending a helping hand whilst forgetting to take care of her own want and wishes. Then there’s Eliza, slightly erratic, living like a student and never one to take responsibility for her actions. At least that’s the impression you get of them first off.

As the book goes on you realise the triplets are more alike and that’s not because they all have a common interest in Angus…The book made me laugh and made me want to cry in places. It contained familiar feelings of being a sister, a friend and a girlfriend. As a woman I think you’ll relate to a lot of feelings that arise in the book between the sisters, whether you’re a triplet or not!

From Rose and Toby, the secrets revealed in hidden journals, the surprise guests at Roxy’s and the events that unfold atSet featured image Mont Blanc; there are a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

And what about the the happy ending I hoped the book would have? Well I’ll leave that to you to find out…

A great, easy-going, summer read and one to pass around to friends when you’re finished!
